Melanie: Tuesday

I let Chris and Sam suggest my workout today, and did a combination of their ideas. "Thanks" guys. I developed a splitting headache in the middle of it and thought I might be having an aneurysm. (I'm editing this post from yesterday - I did the correct number of reps, not too few as I thought when posted yesterday).

Lil' Fran
Thrusters with 45#, Pull ups displacing all but 15# of body weight
21 thrusters
21 pull ups
12 thrusters
12 pull ups
9 thrusters
9 pull ups
Time: 9:30

Bench press
65 x 6; 65 x 4; 70 x 2; 75 x 1

See? You should have listened to me and ignored Chris.

Whattayamean see? It only makes sense that she does the functional exercises first and accessory/assistance lifts like bench press later. I mean really, how functional is an exercise you do lying down (esp. one that does not involve your hips)?

Sam - we want you to do Fran as Rx'd and report back on your experience.

chris is trying to goad me but seriously, skill exercises (especially heavy compound exercises that tax the CNS) nearly always come before metcon or high workload exercises.

And, c'mon, it will take at least 2 months of training for it before I can do Fran as Rxed. Actually probably never, since I don't cheat on pullups :)

But I thought the whole point was to mix it up - heavy compound / met con / anything else

Considering you're a novice bencher I think it's important to do them in the other order. There are reasons to do them in reversed but they are few and very specific.

huh, interesting

Oh boy, here we go...
So, you're telling us that BP fits more in the category of "skill exercises (especially heavy compound exercises that tax the CNS)" than thrusters?
Have you gone mad?

Are you being serious?
Bench pressing (especially heavy bench pressing)is certainly a skill. The adage is true "I don't train, I practice"
I can see thrusters being a skill but not when you're going 135 of them in 10 minutes.
