Chris Monday

Played around with snatch and assistance exercises. Still having trouble with OH squat and hitting a low receiving position for the snatch (the latter was pretty wobbly with only 85lb.), but very gradually feeling more comfortable here.


Then did BENCH, yes, you heard it BENCH! 5-5-4-4-4

Loads = 135, 155, 185, 185, 185

Felt OK, but what I don't understand is how a couple months ago I could do 175 for 15 reps (and doing about the same frequency of this lift that I am now) and today I'm unable to get 5 with 185.


Finished with 3 rounds of 30 sit ups with feet hooked and hanging over a bench, and 30 back extensions. 10 burpees.

I think you should probably increase that frequency.

Chris--you must DEVOTE yourself to the bench. It knows when its been ignored. It has feelings too. You should avoid hurting its feelings by benching more often.

Also - isn't 185, like, 10 pounds heavier than 175? Dude.

I like doing bench because I feel it makes me taller and I stand straighter.

Sorry guys, but nobody is really coming up with anything rational or useful here. If my training frequency of doing that exercise has not changed, a 5.7% increase in load should not result in a 2/3 reduction in the number of reps.

Seriously though, have you checked the frequency on the blog? Since it is an occasional exercise for you even a seemingly minor change could be pretty significant. Also, what about the other exercises that assist (OHP, etc.)? Changes in those could have ramifications as well.

Bodyweight? Diet? Expanded practice of other motor patterns? Muscle endurance up, strength down?

Bodyweight about the same, diet better, have expanded practice of other motor patterns, don't know about endurance, but strenght up - have been posting PRs in all other areas lately.

What does "better" mean for diet? Better for what?

Other motor patterns (including the PR ones) may be interfering with a rarely practiced movement?
